Christians have a history of scapegoating.... What about now, are they using atheists?
I know what you mean by pointing out the terrible acts done in the name of Christianity throughout history. But those acts were done by humans, not by God. But I'm not sure if I've ever noticed atheists being scapegoated, but I'm certain they are discriminated against in jobs. I would imagine that in a job situation there are many instances where atheists find themselves pretending to believe in God, going along to get along. I worked with a Jewish woman many years ago who was extremely uncomfortable around another employee who was leaving tracts in the break room depicting people being consumed by flames. The message was if you don't accept Christ, you'll been damned for eternity. But my friend just tolerated this nonsense because our supervisor went to the same church as the lady distributing these tracts. I'm sure I didn't answer your question, but I did want to point out that it likely isn't easy being an atheist at times.
